WWDC is almost here! I’ve thought long and hard about what could be announced that would have the largest impact on my day to day life over the next year, both as an iOS developer and as a user of Apple products.
My Wish List
My wish list is short but significant. I would love to hear Apple announce improvements to two dark spots in their current development platform:
- Auto Layout
- Interface Builder, in its service as a tool to specify Auto Layout constraints
My recent complaints about Auto Layout are directly related to this list. While other announcements may have far reaching effects in the years to come, over the next 12 months I can think of nothing that would be more impactful than all developers regaining time lost to wrestling with Auto Layout and users benefitting from the improved apps those developers could deliver.
Unfortunately, I don't expect any announcements regarding improvements to Auto Layout. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more attempts to mitigate issues, but I don't expect any real fixes. I would be surprised if there weren't any improvements to Interface Builder as an Auto Layout tool, so I'm looking forward to Xcode 8!
